Orbis Ireland is part of Orbis International – a non-profit global development organisation working to eliminate avoidable blindness in the world’s most poverty stricken regions.
Established in 2001, the Great Ethiopian Run is a 10km race in Addis Ababa located 2,300m above sea level. This year it had 40,000 participants.
Orbis Ireland runners have raised over €600,000 through participating in the Great Ethiopian Run over the past five years, with all funds raised going towards the charity’s goal of eliminating this blinding disease and restoring sight to people in the most rural villages in Ethiopia.
Since 1982, ORBIS Ireland has treated over 15 million people for blindness-related diseases in 90 developing countries worldwide.
