Three months after finishing eighth in the Tokyo Marathon in 2:07:58, Tsegaye Kebede from Ethiopia will be returning to Japan for the Gifu Seiryu Half Marathon, an IAAF Silver Label Road Race, on 17 May.
Kebebe, 28, is one of the most prolific marathon-runners on the circuit. Since making his debut back in 2007, he has tallied up four sub-2:06 performances and an impressive 15 sub-2:09 performances in total. His lifetime best for the full distance stands at 2:04:38, and he has a best ever time of 59:35 for the half marathon.
Kebede will line up against two Japanese-based Kenyans who can also boast sub-one hour lifetime bests for the half marathon: Bedan Karoki and Martin Mathathi.
The women’s race doesn’t quite have the same depth but it does include three outstanding runners: Atsede Baysa from Ethiopia, Eunice Kirwa from Bahrain and Paskalia Kipkoech from Kenya.
About 9000 runners are expected to compete in the half marathon.
